CRP is a protein produced by the liver. A relationship has been found between a person’s CRP levels and their risk for events like heart attack or stroke.
A CRP test can indicate a person is at risk even if they have “normal” cholesterol levels. Cholesterol is only one risk factor. I’ve covered how a standard cholesterol test doesn’t really mean anything, but the NMR Lipoprofile is a much better cholesterol test.
Interestingly, I was told by quite a few people that consuming red meat would increase CRP levels. That was not the case at all! When I ate mostly plant-based foods, my CRP test was 0.56 and after a few years later after consuming more red meat and eggs, it actually DROPPED to 0.29.
